Melinda Oliver let me know that it was reported in the San Leandro Times that Candy had passed away recently from cancer. A celebration of life is to be held sometime in the near future. I didn't know her in high school, but got to know her working on one of the reunions. She was smart, hard working and fun to be with.

Candy was one of my best friends at SLHS.. so many long telephone conversations about what her Mom was up to [then].. and the Rollarena! Last I saw her was at the Montclair reunion when my Mom was still alive.. I will always cherish those times.. Blessings to her family..

I was friends with Candy in high school. Then I moved away in the middle of my junior year so we lost touch. 45 years later, we reconnected again when she became a volunteer for agility classes that I was teaching at the Marin Humane Society in Novato, CA. She was the Dog Training Assistant for these classes. At first, we didn't know we had previously known each other because our last names were different. Then one day I mentioned that I had gone to Bancroft and San Leandro High. She told me she had too. Then I looked up her photo and remembered how we used to eat lunch together and had been friends back then. She had written in my yearbook about how we had exchanged clothes during a PE class one time. For what reason neither of us could recall, but it made us laugh to think of ourselves as teens.
So, ours was a relationship of coming together, parting, and coming together again, and now parting. When she first told me about her diagnosis I knew this time would come. At least now I know she is no longer suffering from bile duct cancer. Goodbye my long lost and found friend.
